In Balzac, characters would travel from Paris to the provinces; today, European travelers fly to the USA and back—whichever is to be seen as provincial. This text, written by one of the “transatlantic theoreticians” dealt with in the rest of this issue, is about several travels he made from the United States to Greece, from France to the USA, from Manhattan to Astoria, from France to Greece and from Greece to The States, etc. The result is a statement of the loss of America, or the loss of one’s illusions. And the feeling that body-snatchers have changed sides and that one had better dance with the wolves than howl with them.
