خلال ست سنوات ونصف (مايو 1984-يناير 1991)، أصدرت مجلّةُ »اليوم السابع«، التي أُنشأت بباريس سنة 1984، ثلاثمائة وثمانية وأربعين عددًا وُزعت في العواصم العربية. وقد مثلت لحظةً فارقة في الحياة الفكرية العربية المعاصرة إذ كانت إحدى ركائزِها في سياق الانحسار الإيديولوجي لسنوات الثمانينيات. وكفضاء أعادت التشكّل فيه شبكة أنتلجينسيا بيروتيةٌ مناضلة يسارية، استمدت هذه الأسبوعية نجاحَها من الرأسمال الرمزي المتين لمن كانوا يُسهمون فيها بانتظام، كالشاعر محمود درويش، ومن سعة الحيّز المخصص في صفحاتها للمسألة الفلسطينية وأخيرًا من النقاشات السياسية والفكرية راقيةِ المستوى التي كانت هي رأس حربتها. وفضلًا عن كونها موقعًا مميزًا لتداول الأفكار التقدمية، كانت نقطةَ التقاء بين الأنتلجينسيا العربية في المغرب والمشرق وبالقدر نفسه بين الثقافة الفرنسية والعالم العربي.

Founded in 1984, the Paris-based weekly magazine al-Yawm al-sābi‘ [The Seventh Day] distributed 348 issues across Arab capitals in the space of six and a half years (from May 1984 to January 1991). The publication represented a key moment in contemporary Arab intellectual life, as it was one of its supports in the context of the ideological regression of the 1980s. As a space for reconstituting Beirut’s network of left-wing intellectual militancy, the magazine drew its success from several sources, including the strong symbolic capital of its regular contributors, such as the poet Mahmoud Darwish, the devotion of large sections to the Palestinian question, and the initiation of high-level political and intellectual debates. As a privileged place for the circulation of Arabist and progressive ideas, the weekly was also a rallying point for Arabic-speaking intellectuals from the Maghreb and the Mashreq, as well as a point of passage between French culture and the Arab world.

Créée en 1984, la revue al-Yawm al-sābi‘ [Le Septième jour] diffusa depuis Paris 348 numéros à destination des capitales arabes en l’espace de six années et demi (de mai 1984 à janvier 1991). Elle représenta un moment phare de la vie intellectuelle arabe contemporaine, en tant qu’elle fut l’un de ses supports dans le contexte de reflux idéologique des années 1980. Espace de recomposition d’un réseau intellectuel et militant beyrouthin de gauche, la revue tire son succès à la fois du fort capital symbolique de ses contributeurs réguliers, à l’instar du poète Mahmoud Darwich, de l’étendue des pages consacrées à la question palestinienne et des débats politiques et intellectuels de haute volée dont elle fut le fer de lance. Lieu privilégié de circulation des idées arabistes et progressistes, l’hebdomadaire fut également un point de ralliement entre les intellectuels arabes du Maghreb et du Mashreq, autant qu’un point de passage entre la culture française et le monde arabe.
