Emmanuelle Toulet, « Nodier, un certain goût de la reliure ? », Bulletin du bibliophile, ID : 10670/1.b6zl4w
This article analyses Charles Nodier’s tastes and practices as a book collector interested in bindings, as it can be seen from his writings, the catalogues of his collections and successive book sales. It shows his interest, generally overlooked, for ancient bindings, within the scope imposed by his modest means, as well as within the context of the contemporary knowledge of the history of bindings. Nodier’s relationship with binding has often been limited to his links with Thouvenin, a bookbinder, whereas many other 19th century binders appear in his collections. Through his innovations in the decoration of bindings as well as the originality of the thinking he developed, Nodier occupies a particular and dominating place at the core of the recurring debate on modern bindings for ancient books.
