À partir des années 1960 les Églises protestantes du Pacifique se dotent d’un Institut de formation supérieur à vocation régionale, le Pacific Theological College, basé à Suva, Fidji. Son orientation oecuménique et le développement, dans les années 1980, d’une « théologie du Pacifique » entraînent une certaine professionnalisation mais aussi une nette féminisation du corps pastoral dans la région. Cet article soulève la question de l’écart existant entre un certain discours théologico-culturel océanien et la réalité urbaine dans laquelle s’exerce le ministère de ces pasteurs, hommes ou femmes, formés à Fidji dans la deuxième moitié du xxe siècle.

Culture at the heart of theology : the formation of Oceanic pastors in the second half of the 20th century at the Pacific Theological College of Suva (Fiji)From the 1960s, the protestant Churches in the Pacific decided to create and support a common regional theological institute : the Pacific Theological College, located in Suva, Fiji. Its ecumenical commitment and the development of a specific Pacific Theology in the 1980s meant an increase in the number of professional educated ministers and an enlargement of the number of female theologians in the region. The aim of this paper is to point out the gap that existed between an Oceanianic theological and cultural view and the urban reality in which these ministers were involved in the second half of the 20th Century.
