El bertsolari ha sido considerado históricamente como una seña de identidad de la cultura vasca. Este artículo repasa la influencia que han tenido los últimos campeonatos absolutos en la construcción de la identidad vasca. Para ello, se aplica la teoría de los polisistemas al bertsolarismo, deteniéndose en el mercado, la institución, el repertorio, el público, el/la bertsolari y el bertso; y describiendo las interacciones que hay entre esos factores. Los/as bertsolaris siguen cantando sobre los temas que más interesan al pueblo, y son estos mismos temas los que definen o renegocian la identidad de la ciudadanía bilingüe que habita el País Vasco.

Le bertsolari est historiquement considéré comme un signe d’identité de la culture basque. Cet article examine l'influence des derniers championnats absolus sur la construction de l’identité basque. Pour ce faire, il s’appuie sur la théorie des polysystèmes appliquée au bertsolarisme, en se concentrant sur le marché, l’institution, le répertoire, le public, le/la bertsolari et le bertso, et en décrivant les interactions entre ces facteurs. Les bertsolaris continuent à chanter les thèmes qui intéressent le plus les gens, et ce sont ces mêmes thèmes qui définissent ou renégocient l’identité des citoyen.nes bilingues qui habitent le Pays basque.

The bertsolari has been historically considered as a sign of identity of the Basque culture. This article reviews the influence that the last absolute championships have had in the construction of the Basque identity. It does so on the basis of the theory of polysystems applied to bertsolaritza, focusing on the market, the institution, the repertoire, the audience, the bertsolari and the bertso; and describing the interactions between these factors. The bertsolaris continue to sing about the topics that most interest the people, and these same topics define or renegotiate the identity of the bilingual citizenry that inhabits the Basque Country.
