The report focuses on the relationship between the Golasecca culture and the Parisian Museum d’Antiquités nationales through the work of Alexandre Bertrand (1820-1902), the first director of the museum, and of Gabriel de Mortillet (1821-1898), eminent prehistorian and systematizer of European prehistoric chronology. Both in contact with the early Italian prehistoric scholars contributed to the birth of prehistoric disciplines as well as to the study and interpretation of the Golasecca culture. Between 1866 and 1893, through exchanges, excavations, acquisitions and donations made with their most eminent Italian colleagues, artefacts of the Golasecca culture continued to be collected at the Musée des Antiquités nationales, which today holds the largest collection abroad.

La relazione evocherà il rapporto che lega la cultura di Golasecca al museo parigino d’Antiquités nationales attraverso l’opera di Alexandre Bertrand (1820- 1902), primo direttore del museo, e di Gabriel de Mortillet (1821-1898), eminente preistorico e sistematizzatore della cronologia preistorica europea. Entrambi in contatto con l’ambiente dei primi studiosi italiani di preistoria contribuirono non solo alla nascita delle discipline preistoriche ma anche allo studio e all’interpretazione della cultura di Golasecca. Tra il 1866 e il 1893, attraverso scambi, scavi, acquisti e donazioni realizzati con i più eminenti colleghi italiani, il materiale della cultura di Golasecca continuò a essere raccolto al Musée des Antiquités nationales, che oggi vanta la più consistente raccolta all’estero.
