Soledad Figueredo et al., « Soy cycle and strategies of agricultural actors along the west cost of Uruguay », HAL-SHS : sociologie, ID : 10.17141/eutopia.16.2019.4103
This article aims to contribute to the understanding of the agricultural intensification process in the uruguayan field in relation to the advancement of the agribusiness model. For this, the socio-spatial changes developed in the most intensive agricultural production regions of Uruguay (departments of Río Negro and Soriano) are studied. The focus of this work seeks to dialogue sociological, geographic and agro-economic analysis, based on the articulation of information from primary data collected in interviews with qualified informants along with secondary data. The soy cycle is analyzed, identifying three major phases, installation, consolidation and retraction phase of the agricultural-soybean model. The central idea is that the recent changes that affected the agricultural sector in Uruguay led to the shift from chains traditionally managed by local producers to productions obtained by diverse actors able to capture and use innovative technological resources and with strong integration into global chain of value.
