The aim of this paper is to reconsider a harshly debated point, concerning whether or not religious mentions can be found in the new Thebes tablets. Following the lines suggested by J.T. Killen (2006), the tablets have been re-examined according to the objective criteria generally applied to Mycenaean documents. On the one hand, it is obvious that the Eleusinian interpretation of the tablets, as the editors suggested, somehow strains the data. On the other hand, one cannot a priori exclude that religious matters can be referred to. Thus it is argued that o-po-re-i is very probably a theonym that has been preserved as Zeus’s epithet ΟΠΟΡΕΙ appearing in an inscription from Acraiphia.

On revient ici sur une question très débattue, celle d’éventuelles mentions religieuses dans les nouvelles tablettes de Thèbes. Dans la perspective ouverte par J. Killen (2006), on a réexaminé ces textes, sur la base des critères objectifs généralement appliqués à la documentation mycénienne. S’il apparaît que l’interprétation éleusinienne défendue par les éditeurs force quelque peu les données, on ne doit pourtant pas exclure a priori la possibilité de mentions religieuses dans ces nouveaux documents. On montre ainsi qu’o-po-re-i est très probablement un théonyme, que le grec alphabétique conserve dans la forme ΟΠΟΡΕΙ, épithète de Zeus dans une inscription d’Acraiphia.
