The therapeutic education of the patient in the pharmacy : return on one century of pedagogy – The chemist is a health educator. Its mission of therapeutic education of the patient (inscribed in the French Code of the public health since 2009) helps the patients to become actors of their medical care. The understanding of pathologies, their prevention and their treatments, leads to the improvement of the entire healthcare system. This article traces the history of the progressive construction of the concept of therapeutic education of the patient at the pharmacy, in France, during the twentieth century. This study is based on a corpus of brochures for patients (almanachs, booklets) distributed initially by some pharmacies concerned with their advertising ; but also over twenty years of the newsletter Info Santé (1977-1997) produced by the CESSPF. This article presents also three iconic pharmaceutical figures in health education : Dr Pierre Rolland, Pr André Quevauviller et the chemist Janine Dufouil.

Le pharmacien est un éducateur en matière de santé. Sa mission d’Éducation thérapeutique du patient (ETP) (inscrite dans le Code de la Santé Publique depuis 2009) aide le malade à devenir acteur de sa prise en charge médicale. La compréhension des pathologies, de leur prévention et de leurs traitements, participe à l’amélioration de l’ensemble du système de soins. Cet article retrace l’histoire de la construction progressive du concept d’ETP à l’officine au cours du XXe siècle. Il s’appuie sur un corpus de brochures destinées aux patients : almanachs, livrets thématiques, etc., distribués d’abord à l’initiative de quelques pharmacies pionnières, soucieuses de leur publicité ; mais aussi sur un corpus de vingt années du bulletin Info Santé (1977-1997) produit par le CESSPF. Cet article évoque également trois figures pharmaceutiques emblématiques en matière d’éducation sanitaire : le Dr Pierre Rolland, le professeur André Quevauviller et la pharmacienne Janine Dufouil.
