Résumé 0

Ibsen, who was a disciple of Søren Kierkegaard and took a very active part in the movement called “Det moderne Gjennombrudd”, dealt in all his work and in every possible way with “absolutist” ideals. But what he praised was counteracted by the “compact majority” that was itself represented by those I will in this paper call the imbeciles – like Mandersn, Helmer, Tesman, Ekdal, Rørlund, etc., at least one of them appears in every play ! To know why one is an imbecile in Ibsen’s work and who it is precisely is the central question of this paper.
