Partant du constat que l’hospitalité du Nord vis-à-vis des migrants du Sud tend à s’amoindrir, l’article commence par décrire sa figure actuelle à cinq niveaux : État, services publics, associations, entreprises privées, citoyens ordinaires. Certaines hypothèses, complémentaires, sont alors proposées pour tenter de comprendre la genèse de cette géographie et de cette histoire de l’hospitalité, marquées par un appauvrissement des espaces intermédiaires tolérant l’ambiguïté entre l’hôte et l’ennemi. Suit une analyse des formes de reconnaissance susceptibles de revitaliser ces espaces appauvris. La création de « communautés transitionnelles », pensées pour la première fois par l’auteur il y a plus de vingt ans, suggère une alternative aux actuelles tendances.

Starting from the observation that the hospitality of the North towards migrants from the South is decreasing, the article begins by describing its current figure at five levels: State, public services, associations, private companies, ans ordinary citizens. The article proposes a set of complementary hypotheses are then proposed to try to understand the genesis of this geography and this history of hospitality, which as been marked by an impoverishment of the intermediate spaces tolerating ambiguity between the host and the enemy. This is followed by an analysis of the forms of recognition likely to revitalize these impoverished middle grounds. The creation of “transitional communities” suggests an alternative to current trends.
