The conquest of the Ethiopian Christian Kingdom by the Barr Saʿd Ad-dīn Sultanate during the first half of the 16th century has often been considered as a peripheral consequence of the struggle opposing the Portuguese and the Ottoman Empire for the control of the Red Sea.
