Résumé 0

Between Social Assistance and Transmission: Jewish Summer Camps (from the 1930s to the Present)Established at the end of the 19th century, as a priority for the working classes and an integral part of the social protection of children, summer camps were for a long time the responsibility of municipalities, private associations or even parishes, until the welfare state took an interest in them. The same evolution can be found in the Jewish world. Summer camps, day camps, patronages, have been concerned with taking care of children outside school hours, either to relieve parents, or for specific educational support, or for a more sanitary purpose, as was the case with the OSE. Each organization has its own place to welcome children, which becomes a reference point for thousands of children. From the aftermath of the war to the 2000s, they structured Jewish youth by communicating collective values.
