La présente contribution porte sur trois manuscrits de l’époque médiévale, à savoir « al-Ansab » de Saleh bin Abdu el-Halim al-Aylani, « Mafākhi al-barbar » (auteur anonyme) et « Chawahid al-Jilla » d’Ibn al-Arabi. Traitant principalement de l’histoire sociale de l’Occident musulman, ces manuscrits s’intéressent à la problématique du peuplement du nord de l’Afrique par les Amazighes (Brbères) et à la recherche sur leurs origines, leurs tribus et leurs déplacements. Aussi cet article s’articule-t-il autour de trois axes principaux : 1) Sources d’information relatives aux habitants et à la structure humaine des Amazighes, 2) Origine ethnique et géographique des Amazighes, 3) Mouvement et expansion de certaines de leurs tribus.

This paper accommodates the origin of Amazigh people and their movement and spread through the Islamic West in three medieval Moroccan manuscripts: "Al-Ansab" by Saleh bin Abdul Halim Al-Aylani, and "Mafaakhir al barbar" by an unknown Moroccan author, both from the 8th century of the Hegira / 14th century AD, and "Shawahid Al-Jilla" by Ibn al-Arabi (6th century of the Hegira / 12th century AD). The study focuses on three points. The first concerns the writers’ resources relating to Amazigh demography. The second deals with the ethnic and geographical origin of the Amazigh populations, while the third provides information on the movement and expansion of certain tribes.
