This original summary thesis focuses on the study of emotions in the social sciences. He defends the interest of taking emotions as a subject from a sociological point of view and integrating them into the explanation of the social. It draws on a reflexive and transversal way from four empirical studies relating to the work of funeral directors and funeral rites, the perception and management of industrial risks, the donation of the body to science, and simulation-based learning of medical and paramedical work. The first chapter examines the sociological theoretical frameworks relating to emotions and their epistemological compatibilities in order to situate the challenges of this field of research and articulate the micro and macrosociological levels. The second chapter is devoted to the methodology and the impact of the points of view analyzed and the techniques of constitution and analysis of the materials on the construction of the object and the explanatory tracks proposed. The third chapter focuses on the analysis of emotions in actions and social interactions on the fields investigated, with regard to the norms and values that organize the "work of emotions" (their effects, what they make people do or think) and “work on the emotions” (what is done to control them, shape them or promote them). Finally, the fourth chapter problematizes the ordinary or sociological knowledge of emotions at the macrosociological level in the context of socio-professional issues (recognition of hardship and skills, health, construction of meaning and training, economic profit-sharing and social acceptability) and more broadly of historical, cultural, economic and political logic specific to the sectors of activity studied

Ce mémoire original de synthèse s’intéresse à l’étude des émotions en sciences sociales. Il défend l’intérêt de prendre pour objet les émotions d’un point de vue sociologique et de les intégrer dans l’explication du social. Il prend appui de manière réflexive et transversale sur quatre recherches empiriques portant sur le travail des pompes funèbres et les rites funéraires, la perception et la gestion des risques industriels, le don du corps à la science, et l’apprentissage par simulation du travail soignant. Le premier chapitre examine les cadres théoriques sociologiques portant sur les émotions et leurs compatibilités épistémologiques afin de situer les enjeux de ce champ de recherches et articuler les niveaux micro et macrosociologiques. Le deuxième chapitre est consacré à la méthodologie et aux incidences des points de vue analysés et des techniques de constitution et d’analyse des matériaux sur la construction de l’objet et les pistes explicatives proposées. Le troisième chapitre porte sur l’analyse des émotions dans les actions et interactions sociales sur les terrains investigués, au regard des normes et des valeurs qui organisent le « travail des émotions » (leurs effets, ce qu’elles font faire ou penser) et le « travail sur les émotions » (ce qui est fait pour les maîtriser, les mettre en forme ou les faire valoir). Enfin, le quatrième chapitre problématise la connaissance des émotions, ordinaire ou sociologique, au niveau macrosociologique, dans le cadre d’enjeux socioprofessionnels (de reconnaissance des pénibilités et des compétences, de santé, de construction de sens et de formation, d’intéressement économique et d’acceptabilité sociale) et plus largement de logiques historiques, culturelles, économiques et politiques propres aux secteurs d’activité étudiés.
