Jean-François Battail, « L’Appel du Grand Nord. Entre fascination exotique et curiosité scientifique », Études Germaniques, ID : 10670/1.t6ruux
Starting with the Age of Discovery, a strong interest in geographical and ethnographic questions emerged in Europe. The extreme North of the continent sparked the curiosity of travellers and academics, but some time passed before it was fully known and explored. This article will demonstrate, from a history of ideas perspective, the gradual emergence of a form of borealism, stemming both from empirical observations based on the desire for knowledge, and exotic daydreams often imbued with ideological elements.
