Jean II de Rohan est un personnage qui a été souvent au centre de controverses, notamment en raison de ses choix politiques entre duché de Bretagne et royaume de France. Toutefois, ce grand féodal breton a été également un constructeur important, un commanditaire éclairé et a joué un rôle important dans la promotion du culte de saint Vincent Ferrier en Bretagne, et notamment sur les terres du vicomte, soit près d’un cinquième du duché. À l’exception des Montfort et du culte de Saint-Yves, peu d’exemples ont été identifiés en Bretagne historique pour l’impulsion donnée au développement d’une dévotion par la noblesse, sur une telle échelle géographique et sur une durée aussi longue. C’est à partir de l’analyse du corpus actuel des représentations de saint Vincent Ferrier et de leur répartition que cet article s’attache à expliquer cette promotion et ses mécanismes, notamment au travers du parcours familial et politique du vicomte.

John II of Rohan is a character who has often been at the center of controversies, especially because of his political choices between the Duchy of Brittany and the Kingdom of France. However, this great Breton feudal was also an important builder, an enlightened sponsor and played an important role in promoting the cult of Saint Vincent Ferrier in Brittany, and especially on the lands of the Viscount, nearly one-fifth of the duchy. With the exception of the Montforts and the cult of Saint-Yves, few examples have been identified in historic Brittany for the impetus given to the development of devotion by the nobility, on such a geographical scale and over such a long period. Based on the analysis of the current corpus of representations of Saint Vincent Ferrier and their distribution, this article will focus on explaining this promotion and its mechanisms, particularly through the family and political career of the Viscount.
