La réponse du poète chaghatay Nawā’ī au poète persan Niẓāmī

Lorsque Mīr ‘Alī Shīr Nawā’ī réécrit un célèbre apologue issu du Makhzan al-asrār de Niẓāmī à travers lequel le poète persan entendait illustrer l’injustice dont font preuve les rois à l’égard de leurs sujets, l’exercice va bien au-delà de la démonstration de virtuosité littéraire. Non content de livrer une autre fin au récit qui au contraire de son modèle met en valeur la justice du sultan Ḥusayn Bayqara, le souverain de l’époque que le poète chaghatay n’a pas hésité à mettre en scène dans son texte, l’imitation prend des allures d’exhortation adressée au prince pour que celui-ci s’assure de l’application pleine et entière de la charia, et la réécriture témoigne alors de la force et de la persistance des coutumes mongoles en cette fin de xve siècle dans le Khorasan timouride.

Response of the Chaghatay Poet Nawā’ī to the Persian Poet Niẓāmī: the Timurid Sultan like the “Refuge of Sharia” When Mīr ‘Alī Shīr Nawā’ī rewrites a famous apologue from Niẓāmī’s Makhzan al-asrār through which the Persian poet sought to illustrate the injustice kings demonstrated towards their subjects, the exercise goes far beyond the exhibition of literary virtuosity. Not satisfied with giving an alternative end to the narrative which contrary to its model highlighted sultan Ḥusayn Bayqara’s justice, the ruler at that time whom the Chaghatay poet did not hesitate to introduce in his text, the imitation begins to look like an exhortation addressed to the Prince that he should ensure the full implementation of the Sharia. The rewriting then can reveal the strength and the persistence of the Mongolian customs at the end of the fifteenth century in Timurid Khorasan.
