Domenico Gasparri, « Nuove acquisizioni sulla divisione agraria di Paestum », Publications de l'École Française de Rome, ID : 10670/1.wpe2hg
This paper represents the first attempt of synthesis of an investigation on the territory of Paestum, Pontecagnano and Velia. The data particularly concern the first of the three. The problem of the archaeological survivals is being dealt with interpretation of air photography. The element of greatest importance is represented by a system of agrarian division, unknown till now, appearing on the plain to the north of Paestum : about 3,000 hectares divided by strigas thanks to roads and canals easily recognized from aerial photography. Also illustrated is the excavation of one of the 22 principal axes which has furnished a terminus ante quem in 79 A.D., because of the obstruction of the drainage canals by the lapilli spewed from Vesuvius, and a terminus post quern at the end of the fourth century B.C., documented by materials found in the roadbed. Also analysed are the problems of overlapping of structures from different periods, in the passage from the Lucan to the Roman period of the colony.
