Résumé 0

What do nurses engaged in paediatric hospitalisation at home do about inequalities among children? An ethnographic survey among professionals in a paediatric home hospitalisation unit in the Île-de-France region casts light on this question. Observation of their work in family homes shows that they attach little importance to the material environment of the sick children, despite the absence of a healthcare bed, which requires them to work in everyday conditions. These professionals are more concerned about the “quality” of the parent-child relations, which crosses the boundaries of social class, though without abolishing them. In this way they successfully forge positive relations with the parents at both ends of the social scale.
