Artisans Working in Pompeii. The Reinterpretation of a Lost Painting from the House of the Pygmies (ix 5, 9) · The study and reinterpretation of archaeological journals and graphic reproductions of the early excavators, provide new data on the role of the Roman craftsman within the painting and construction sites. In this regard, it is interesting to analyse a lost painting from the peristyle of the House of the Pygmies in Pompeii (ix 5, 9). So far, the scientific literature has interpreted the two figures depicted in the eastern wall panels of the peristyle as a plasterer and a fisherman. From the first interpretation of the 19th century, which detected ropes in the hands of the figure so far interpreted as a fisherman, the paper proposes some new considerations regarding the identification of the figure.
