Pour approcher le phénomène d’amour passionnel, Roland Gori met à mal bien des présupposés culturels, notamment celui qui consiste à dénoncer un primitif amour de soi dont il s’agirait de se détacher pour faire place à l’objet. S’appuyant sur de Clérambault, il dénude l’originaire rapport au rien auquel l’être passionné tente d’échapper – après avoir offert sa vie à l’immolation par le rien – en réactivant une érotomanie refoulée : « L’Autre me veut quelque chose, et son désir s’avère corrélatif de mon existence comme sujet. »

In his approach to the phenomenon of passionate love, Roland Gori challenges many cultural presuppositions, notably that which consists of exposing a primal self-love from which it is necessary to detach in order to make room for the Object. Drawing on de Clérambault, he uncovers the originating relationship to nothingness from which the impassioned subject attempts to escape–having offered his or her life to the immolation of nothingness–by reactivating a repressed erotomania : « The Other wants something from me, and its desire proves to be the correlate to my existance as Subject. »
