Ce chapitre offre un aperçu de la colonisation russe des steppes kazakhes à partir du second tiers du XVIIIe siècle en suivant les trois étapes de ce processus : l’établissement des lignes de frontière jusqu’en 1740 ; la conquête progressive des trois Hordes kazakhes jusqu’en 1850 ; enfin la consolidation du système administratif et la colonisation économique. Au cours de cette période, la transformation territoriale, administrative et juridique des steppes kazakhes mais aussi et surtout l’arrivée massive de colons russes ont façonné une société moderne, dont le Kazakhstan a largement hérité à son indépendance.

This chapter presents an overview of the Russian colonisation of Kazakh steppes since the second third of the XVIIIth century and follows the three stages of this process  : the establishment of boundaries until 1740 ; the gradual conquest of the three Kazakh Hordes until 1850 ; and finally the consolidation of the administrative system and the economic colonisation. Throughout the period, the territorial, administrative, and legal transformation of the Kazakh steppes, as well as the massive arrival of Russian settlers have moulded a modern society that was to a great extent inherited by independent Kazakhstan.

Эта глава представляет обзор русской колонизации казахских степей начиная со второй трети 18  -го века, следуя трем этапам этого процесса : установление пограничных линий до 1740 г. ; поступательный захват трех казахских орд до 1850 г. ; и консолидация административной системы и экономическая колонизация. В течение этого периода, территориальная, административная и юридическая трансформация казахских степей, а также массовое прибытие русских колонизаторов сформировали современное общество, которое во многом унаследовал независимый Казахстан.
