The idea justifying this article is that Historia Augusta is an author's work dated end of IVth century who takes into account political choices of his time. Therefore the words and episodes chosen, borrowed from ancient origins, distorted or invented, are not neutral. But, searching through ancient origins that Corippe had known from to give a negative image of Maurus, we came across this polemist, often considered as an historian. Doing then serie of cases of the word Maurus and considering the context in which he Was integrated, it appeared that it was always negative. The Moorish man is the enemy, which led to consider A. Chastagnol's suggestion : he situates Historia Augusta writing date immediately after Gildon rebellion. The validity of given information is therefore thrown back into question for the Illrd and 2nd centuries, and related to Africa. Indeed, can we find credence with a man who use ancient origins, but which have most often disappeared for us, and who ignores the truth ? We may wonder about the Moorish « rebellion » of the Und century. Can we rely on such a fallacious source ? We also wonder about the crisis of 238 and the Septimius Severus' image, not to talk about what is admitted since a long time, pure invention. This critical vision also has another aim : to think about the credibility of written sources which inform us about the Maghreb. And particularly about the Vth century (Bonifacius' episode), and other times.
