Le gisement moustérien de la "Butte d'Arvigny", commune de Moissy-Cramayel (Seine-et-Marne). Premiers résultats

The Mousterian site was accidentally discovered at the end of the excavation of a later site. It is located at the base of a Stampian butte situated on the Brie plateau (tertiary sedimentation) to the north of Melun (Seine-et-Marne, France). 300 m2 have been excavated in two principal areas. The dig shows human occupation on shingle which was used as raw material for knapping. The prehistoric people also occupied a doline where spatial organisation was well developed. Big rocks of "meulière" and some of sandstone surround the main concentration of artefacts, where much flint refitting has been possible. The knapping techniques and the tools have been compared with the industries of Riencourt-lès- Bapaume, Seclin, Saint-Germain-des Vaux and with the Mousterian sites of the Vanne valley (France).

Le gisement a été découvert fortuitement en fin de fouille d'un site historique. Il est situé en position de pied de butte stampienne sur le plateau briard au nord de Melun (Seine-et-Marne, France). Près de 300 m2 ont été fouillés principalement en deux secteurs. La fouille montre une occupation assez dense sur un cailloutis fournissant ainsi l'essentiel de la matière première pour le débitage. Les préhistoriques ont également séjourné au sein d'une doline. Celle-ci montre une occupation fortement structurée de son espace. De gros blocs de meulières et quelques-uns de grès ceinturent la concentration principale objet de nombreux remontages. Les chaînes opératoires et l'outillage sont rapprochées des gisements de Riencourt-lès-Bapaume, Seclin, Saint-Germain-des-vaux et les sites moustériens de la vallée de la Vanne.
