LiSi₂N₃ est le premier nitrure de ce type dont la structure est déterminée. Il cristallise dans le système orthorhombique avec quatre unités formulaires par maille. Le groupe spatial est Cmc2₁ Les atomes d'azote forment un empilement hexagonal compact légèrement déformé dans lequel les atomes de lithium et de silicium occupent de façon ordonnée la moitié des sites tétraédriques.
