On a déterminé la structure cristalline d'un polytype de grande période et celles de polytypes complexes tels que 40H et 150R, ainsi que leurs structures d' intercroissance, au moyen d'images de réseau à une dimension, et par corrélation des intensités observées et calculées de diffraction de rayons X. Afin de déterminer la structure d'un nouveau polytype à grande période 411R et ses structures d' intercroissance, on a effectué des images de réseau bidimensionnelles en faisceau incliné en utilisant des réflexions choisies (à partir des conditions d'image dans le cas d'une structure 6H simple) afin d'obtenir des franges en chevrons simulant la séquence d'empilement. Le fait important déduit de ces études d'images de réseau est l'existence de structures d'intercroissance entraînant la formation de structures de superpériodes (> 100 nm). Enfin, on a montré que le désordre à une dimension est dû soit à de grandes périodes, soit à un désordre non aléatoire, soit, dans très peu de cas, à un désordre aléatoire.
