The ambulatory ofthe collegiate church of Saint-Quiriace de Provins, by Arnaud Timbert In 1939, in her monograph on the collegiate church of Saint-Quiriace de Provins, the Marquise A. de Maillé describes a homogeneous conception and dates the beginning of construction to 1157. However, the unusual joining ofthe angled ambulatory and the semi- circular east end, as well as the analysis of the pillars and arches suggests a construction that took place in two stages. The work would have begun under Thibaud II, around 1145-1150, with the laying out of a flat chevet with an angled ambulatory. After Thibaud's death in 1152 a new plan was adopted, perhaps under the influence of Henri I the Liberal, with a semi-circular east end.
