Résumé En Fr

An inscription from Sikayt (Egypt) (AE, 2001, 2051) of AD 76/ 77, which mentions the prefect of Egypt L. Iulius Ursus, known also from other documents, offers a sure date for this appointment whose precise chronology under the Flavians was discussed and allows us to fix the sure terminus ante quem for his prefecture of the annona, immediately precedent (see IGLS, VI, 2785, datable before 98). We revise therefore the Fasti of the two prefectures under Vespasian and Domitian, thanks also to a new inscription from Ostia (AE, 2003, 102) which adds to those of the annona the prefect of Egypt Valerius Paullinus. In the light of these data, we re-examine when the hierarchy at the top of the equestrian career began to settle into a fixed order. Then the debated interpretation of P. Berol. inv. 8334, according to which, after Egypt, L. Iulius Ursus would have been praetorian prefect, is here considered and could offer another useful example on the hierarchy of the high prefectures in the first century AD.
