Résumé En Fr

The presence of women was a prominent feature in the daily lives of Roman imperial soldiers. Never in fact did the emperors attempt to bar the soldiers from relations with women. However, the Roman state insisted on controlling and approving the legal status of these women, of their unions with the soldiers and of the soldiers’ children. This led to new administrative procedures and the production of a great many written documents.
