Résumé En Fr

African Reality seen through Objects: The Peter the Creat Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology at St. Petersburg. — How to define a museum of ethnology, its assignments and roles in relation to society and the real cultures placed on display? Curiosity? An empire's cultural expansion? The aspiration to integration in a universal culture? Is the policy guiding the collection of objects spontaneous, a matter of seizing not-to-be-missed opportunities? How does the collector's personality corne into play? What does the act of collecting involve? Does this act itself "influence" a culture? "Texts" and "context" lead us to focus on the itineraries of the objects as they end up in exhibits. A few confessions by a collecter about the "African fiels".
