The question of silence, notably in the works of Cage, Feldman, Stockhausen, Scelsi, Mompou or Takemitsu, has for some time now, often strayed from the traditional acceptance of such a notion in the history of musical thought in the West. We propose to share these hypotheses for reflection, which also allow us to determine the roots of the aesthetic conception of the composers concerned.

La question du silence connaît, depuis plusieurs décennies, notamment dans les œuvres de Cage, Feldman, Stockhausen, Scelsi, Mompou, Takemitsu, des conséquences qui s'écartent très souvent de l'acception traditionnelle attribuée à une telle notion, dans l'histoire de la pensée musicale occidentale. Ce sont ces hypothèses de réflexion que nous nous proposons de relever, et qui permettent en outre de cerner certains fondements de la conception esthétique des compositeurs concernés.
