Résumé
The libertin tradition in enlightenment materialism. The libertin tradition is one of the most important roots of Enlightenment materialism. It can be seen in the common sources which they both draw on, the links between texts and authors who continue a traditional process marked by the primacy of erudition, the persistence of ways of writing and reading, the themes and trends involved in this literary and erudite preoccupation. All these traits, which particularly characterise early 18th-century materialism, nevertheless persist and can still be seen at the end of the century.
