This article analyses the phenomenon of Galician mutual-aid associations in America, by focusing on the reproduction of espaces of social interaction which were brought by mirgants from Galicia to America. The development of an associative network fragmented in local and parochial societies must be explained in the light of the complementary interests of a selected leadership of economically successful migrants , as well as of another elite of journalists, politicians and émigrés from Galicia. That phenomenon was flanked by the parallel development of agrarian and political assocations in Galicia at the local level, which very often received financial support from overseas communities. This resulted in a mosaic of interaction between the communities of origin of the migrants and their associations in America, which contributed to modernise Galician politics during the first third of the 20th century.
