Many translators work within a single genre, such as prose, poetry or theatre, and yet the similarities between the three genres are far greater than the differences. Every text is fundamentally oral, every translator is a musician and a director. What distinguishes theatre translation is undoubtedly its difficulty and great educational value.

De nombreux traducteurs se cantonnent dans un genre : prose, poésie ou théâtre, et pourtant ce qui sépare les trois genres est peu de chose à côté de ce qui les rapproche. Tout texte est essentiellement oral, tout traducteur est un musicien. Et un metteur en scène. Ce qui distingue la traduction théâtrale, sans doute, c’est sa difficulté ainsi que sa grande valeur pédagogique.
