"Working for Glory". The World of caged Birds 8.000 amateur breeders of caged birds have adopted an associative form of organisation, which is tantamount to a "place for generating esteem". From the local to the international level, they . present their birds in competitions, in : hopes of winning the title of champion. These titles are awarded according to very specific criteria grouped together in . a standard, corresponding to a theoretical performance to be achieve for each bird category. The judges, who are recruited fromamong the best breeders and trained by their peers, arbitrate according to accepted rules. From these competitions emerges an elite whose only reward is trophies or medals, svmbols of recognition of their expertise. These breeders claim the status of amateurs in the sense that they are not seeking profit but rather are "working for glory".
