Matteo Burioni, « Fondements de la communauté. Aspects performatifs des façades de palais à la Renaissance », Histoire de l'art, ID : 10.3406/hista.2013.3454
The façade is not a visual picture : we perceive architecture through various experiences, our bodies and our movements. As the link between the words facciata and faccia (face) suggests, architecture imposes itself upon us face to face, it addresses us and asks us to react. This study focuses on the Rucellai palace designed by Alberti, and deals with three aspects of the figurative nature of architecture that is taking shape in the perceptual process : first with the portal as a threshold that appears like a picture, then with the bench, in which architecture needs the body of the observer to produce meaning, and finally with the voice reverberated through the cornice and creating a shared community space.
