The Numerous Sacred Forms of Nouvelles Images Within the revival of religious art in France, Jacques Blanc created the “Club des Nouvelles Images” in 1957 to not only renew the system of postcards and holy images, but also to spread contemporary art to a broad public through postcards, multiples, and artists’ books. Fond of contemporary art, he offered a group of subscribers cards with wishes, holy images, or sculptures designed by artists “of the present time.” Georges Braque, Alfred Manessier, and Léon Zack were the first artists to answer his call, while Jean Arp, Raoul Ubac and Pierre Székely would follow. Abstract forms, photos, and typographical innovations constituted many of the singular aspects of this atypical adventure.

Dans le contexte de renouveau de l’art sacré en France, Jacques Blanc fonde en 1957 le « Club des Nouvelles Images » afin de renouveler le domaine des cartes postales et l’imagerie religieuse, mais aussi de diffuser l’art contemporain au plus grand nombre sous forme de cartes postales, de multiples ou de livres d’artistes. Épris d’art contemporain, il propose à un groupe d’abonnés des cartes de vœux, des images de piété ou des sculptures inédites conçues par les artistes « du temps présent ». Georges Braque, Alfred Manessier et Léon Zack sont les premiers créateurs à répondre à son appel, suivront Jean Arp, Raoul Ubac ou Pierre Székely. Formes abstraites, photographies, réflexion sur la typographie, constituent autant d’aspects singuliers de cette aventure atypique.
