This article explores the privileged link between space and the sacred in Ireland. It examines the «sense of place», which is a distinctive feature of the Irish cultural tradition at all times in history, and argues that it is endowed with a specific meaning in the religious sphere. Several spaces are thus analysed in historical perspective, from the tribal to the virtual - one aspect of the postmodern tribal space, via the national and international spaces that have been the frameworks of all religious evolutions in Ireland.

Cet article s'intéresse à l'interaction en Irlande entre rapport à l'espace et lien au sacré. Il défend l'idée que le «sens du lieu», trait distinctif de la tradition culturelle irlandaise, est une constante dans l'histoire de l'île et qu'il se reflète tout particulièrement dans le domaine religieux. Différents espaces sont ainsi identifiés en perspective historique, de l'espace tribal archaïque à l'espace virtuel, marque du tribal postmoderne, en passant par les espaces nationaux et internationaux qui ont servi de cadre aux remodèlements religieux en Irlande.
