Characterised by a semi-arid climate, Malta is a mediteranean archipelago faced to a chronic lack of cold water. Therefore, thanks to the help of innovating and productive structures, the maltese actors try to reduce the insufficiency of the natural process in order to supply the need of each person. So, they oriented their efforts in several ways, trying to optimise the resources by the sewage treatment of the used water, and increasing it with the production of cold water by sea water desalinization system, and to conserve it indirectly with the notion of «virtual water».

Caractérisé par un climat semi-aride, Malte est un archipel méditerranéen confronté à un manque chronique d'eau douce. Pour autant, grâce à la mise en place de structures innovantes et productives, les acteurs maltais tentent de pallier les insuffisances de l'apport naturel afin de subvenir aux besoins de chacun. Ils ont ainsi orienté leurs efforts dans plusieurs directions, en s'efforçant d'optimiser la ressource par le biais du recyclage des eaux usées, de l'augmenter en produisant de l'eau douce par des procédés de dessalement d'eau de mer, voire de la conserver indirectement en s'intéressant de plus près à la notion d'«eau virtuelle».
