Fos has been the main industrial achievement of the Vie Plan : two synoptic tables in 1974 and in 1977 clearly show the situation of the industrial area both at its very beginning and nowadays, thus allowing us to measure its evolution. But beyond its interest as a document the analysis of Fos enables us to give an interpretation of the policy of national and regional development which throws light on how the french economical system functions and which can be linked to the theory of C. CASTORIADIS about industrial societies.

Fos a été l'opération industrielle majeure du Vie Plan : deux tableaux synoptiques en 1974 et 1977 présentent la situation de la zone industrielle à son démarrage et aujourd'hui, et permettent de mesurer l'évolution. Mais au-delà de son intérêt documentaire, l'analyse de Fos permet de proposer une interprétation de la politique d'aménagement du territoire qui éclaire le fonctionnement du système économique français et qui peut se rattacher à la théorie de C. CAS- TORIADIS sur les sociétés industrielles.
