Résumé En Fr

Modelling movements of mobile objects along linear pathways or networks, is becoming more important as traffic along these networks increases. This paper discusses a methodology that has been developed for collecting and analysing spatial movements for different kinds of mobile objects along networks. Two case studies are used to illustrate how the methodology has been adopted in two distinct and diverse applications. The first study was completed in 2004 and was an application of the methodology to monitor tourist movements in a well known coastal park in western Victoria, Australia. The second application relates to a project currently underway, where the methodology has been applied to river boat movement along a large urban waterway in metropolitan Melbourne, Australia. Using information derived from this methodology it is possible to model predictive behaviour under varying management scenarios to test the effect of increased traffic flow along networks using agent-based simulation software.
