Notes préliminaires sur les fouilles en cours sur la terrasse d'Hayonim

Excavations were resumed at Hayonim terrace in 1980. The uppermost structures are of Byzantine to Chalcolithic Age. Late Natufian layers were uncovered underneath. The remnants of a house and its surroundings, with one built pit, one large limestone mortar and two burials seem to pertain to the same stratigraphie horizon. Some wild barley was found associated with the fill of this occupation level. Among other structures, still of Late Natufian time but stratigraphically more recent, was part of an accumulation of material which could be an «occupation floor». According to preliminary microwear analysis the flints' surfaces are very fresh and indicate an in-situ deposit.

Depuis 1980 de nouvelles fouilles ont été entreprises sur la terrasse d'Hayonim. Sous des structures qui s'échelonnent entre la période byzantine et le Chalcolithique, des niveaux d'occupation appartenant au Natoufien récent ont été mis au jour. Un ensemble qui paraît stratigraphiquement cohérent a permis d'explorer les restes d'une maison et ses alentours, où figurent une fosse construite, un grand mortier et deux sépultures. Des grains d'orge sauvage sont associés au remplissage correspondant à cette occupation. Parmi d'autres structures, toujours de la même période mais stratigraphiquement moins anciennes, on note une accumulation de vestiges qui représenterait les restes d'un «sol d'occupation» en place si on en croit l'analyse tracéologique préliminaire des silex dont les surfaces sont particulièrement fraîches.
