The Confédération Paysanne and the « Movement against Libéral Globalization ». The International Topic as a Trade Union Issue Ivan Bruneau The paper analyses the very special process which led the Confederation paysanne (CP) to become part and parcell of the antiglobalization movement. This inward study shows the changing ways of considering the international level, understood in this case as a decisive political ground for agricultural policies and as one of the dimensions for trade union action and thinking. In the first part, after a brief introduction to the specific range of radical protest against the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in the seventies and in the eighties, the author describes the inward outcomes of the 1992 CAP reform. And he tries to put on a local viewpoint the demontage of the Mc Donald's restaurant in Millau (August 1999) which was the beginning of the obvious involvement of the CP at the heart of the antiglobalization movement. The second part deals with the post-Millau events and discusses the contradictory effects of the new visibility in the media of the CP claims, that is to say: first, the militants recognizing themselves in the picture built by the media and secondly, the birth of a national debate about the trade-union goals. The paper analyses the conflicts in the way of thinking representation, at work underneath everyone's position in this apparently strategic debate.

L'international comme enjeu syndical Ivan Bruneau L'auteur restitue le processus spécifique qui a conduit à l'association entre la Confédération paysanne et le « mouvement altermondialisation ». Cette analyse interne retrace les modalités, évolutives, de la prise en compte de « l'international », défini ici comme espace politique déterminant des politiques agricoles et comme dimension, parmi d'autres, de la réflexion et de l'action syndicales. Dans une première partie, après une brève présentation du registre protestataire construit dans les années 1970 et 1980 sur une opposition radicale à la politique agricole commune (PAC), l'auteur décrit plus longuement les répercussions internes de la réforme de la PAC de 1992 et tente de « localiser » l'action du « démontage » du Mc Donald's de Millau (août 1999) à l'origine de l'inscription manifeste de la Confédération paysanne au centre du « mouvement altermondialisation ». La seconde partie, consacrée à l'après-Millau, expose les effets contradictoires produits par la médiatisation, inédite, des prises de positions de la Confédération paysanne, c'est-à-dire à la fois l'adhésion des militants à l'image d'eux-mêmes qui leur est indirectement renvoyée, et dans un second temps l'apparition d'un débat national sur les priorités du syndicat. Il analyse alors les conflits de représentation qui sous-tendent les positions de chacun dans ce débat apparemment stratégique.
