Résumé En Fr Es

The notion of catalog : from print to digital. Libraries and museums have, for a very longtime, shared a mutual tool which has participated in building their image and in structuring their functionality. The catalog, term meaning “ read from top to bottom”, comes from the need for inventory and classifi cation. It is linked to ideas of grouping, counting, number, order and memory. The trends towards specialization have tended to separate them, directing them into more specific mediations : reference and display, but recent technological developments and user demands are now leading towards synthesis, hybridity and interconnection. New forms of mediation are appearing, giving a new future to the catalog, as long as it is prepared to become more spatial than linear.
