Through an historiographical return on Ronald Syme’s work, we propose an introductory report on the integration of the elites of Gallia Narbonensis to the Roman imperial elites. Particularly strong and precocious, it has its own chronology. Economic and cultural factors combined closely with the insertion in the Roman frames to allow a political and social ascent. Wealth and varying social dispositions (literate culture, military capabilities) were necessary, but the integration into the social field of the Roman elites is not separable from the history of this field and from the opportunities it opened in particular by the relations of patronage. However, the multiplicity of career path is remarkable. The example of the Duvii of Vaison-la-Romaine is deepened to underline the often underestimated precocity of their integration.

À travers un retour historiographique sur l’oeuvre de Ronald Syme, on propose un bilan introductif sur l’intégration des élites de Narbonnaise aux élites impériales romaines. Particulièrement forte et précoce, elle s’inscrit dans une chronologie propre. Les facteurs économiques et culturels se combinaient étroitement avec l’insertion dans les cadres romains pour permettre une ascension politique et sociale. La richesse et des dispositions sociales variables (culture lettrée, capacités militaires) étaient nécessaires mais l’intégration au champ social des élites romaines n’est pas séparable de l’histoire de ce champ et des opportunités qu’elle ouvrait en particulier par les relations de clientèle. La multiplicité des parcours est cependant remarquable. L’exemple des Duvii de Vaison-la-romaine est approfondi pour souligner la précocité souvent sous-estimée de leur intégration.
