This article aims at identifying and analyzing the specificity of professional research as a training tool, such as it shows itself in its material product, the professional dissertation, and in what the involved institutions and participants say about this production. The crisscrossing of various levels of analysis - the level of the implemented research processes, the level of argumentation processes and the level of the presentation of research processes - brings out the distinctive features of the status of the author and the persons the professional research as a training tool is addressed to. and the features of the construction of the research object, the functions institutionally and individually assigned to the professional dissertation and the formative effects of its elaboration and writing.

Cet article se donne pour tâche d'identifier et d'analyser la spécificité de la recherche professionnelle comme outil de formation, telle qu'elle se manifeste dans la matérialité de son produit, le mémoire professionnel et dans les discours que les institutions et les acteurs concernés tiennent sur ce produit. Le croisement de différents niveaux d'analyse - le niveau des démarches de recherche mises en œuvre, celui des démarches de mise en argumentation et celui des démarches d'exposition de la recherche - permet de faire apparaître les traits distinctifs du statut de l'auteur et des destinataires de la recherche professionnelle comme outil de formation, de la construction de l'objet de recherche, des fonctions assignées, institutionnellement et individuellement au mémoire professionnel et des effets formatifs de son élaboration et de son écriture.
