In the wake of metadiscourse : "slip-ups" in oral performance. Bruno MARTINIE, University of Surrey and Université Paris X. All language activity, from the moment it is spontaneous, shows traces of metadiscourse. In this article, which came about as a resuit of work carried out within the framework of a thesis (Martinie, Ph. d underway), we wanted to make an appraisal of the pieces of work which have studied these traces, less out of a concern for exhaustivity than with the aim of bringing out the diverse nature of the lines of research concerned. Now, whatever the stakes involved or the obstacles encountered, it turns out that an analysis of the "scoria" produced during the development of discourse can be used to give us information about the material content of oral discourse. What is more, it enables us to set out some remarks concerning the strategies (conscious or not) which the speakers use when they are forced to be spontaneous. Finally, an analysis of this kind leads us to ask questions concerning the notion of "accidents" which take place during oral performance.

Toute activité langagière, dès lors qu'elle est spontanée, présente les « marques » du métadiscours. Dans cette contribution, née d'un travail de thèse de doctorat (Martinie, thèse en cours), nous avons souhaité dresser une sorte d'état des lieux des travaux qui se sont penchés sur ces marques, moins dans un souci d'exhaustivité que dans le but d'évoquer la diversité des pistes de recherche concernées. Or, quels que soient les enjeux en cause et les obstacles rencontrés, l'analyse des « scories » produites dans le discours en cours d'élaboration s'avère apte à nous renseigner sur la matérialité de l'oral. Plus encore, elle nous permet de formuler quelques remarques sur les stratégies (conscientes ou non) utilisées par les locuteurs lorsqu'ils sont soumis à la contrainte de spontanéité. Enfin, un tel examen nous conduit à nous interroger sur la notion d' « accident de la performance ».
