The author starts first describes the state of theoretical reflection on communication technologies from a political economic standpoint. He then tries to rethink this approach in light of recent developments in the sector. Observing the recurrent birth of monopolies from the telegraph to the internet, he finally challenges the myth of a technological revolution and concludes with the Microsoft case by arguing in favour of regulation of cyberspace.

L'auteur commence par établir un état des réflexions théoriques menées sur les technologies de communication dans une optique d'économie politique. Il cherche ensuite à repenser cette approche à la lumière des évolutions récentes du secteur. Observant la naissance récurrente de monopoles depuis le télégraphe jusqu'à Internet, il s'attaque enfin au mythe de la révolution technologique et conclut sur le cas de Microsoft en plaidant pour une régulation du cyberespace.
