This study is part of research aiming at enlighting common points between spiritual evolution of protestant pietism anaeducational approaches proposed by forerunner of pre-school education from the 1 7th to the 1 9th century. After an analysis of new ideas progress concerning pre-schooling, throuqh the influence of pietists, we try to define the institution of so-called « poêles à tricoter » (or schools for starters) set by Jean-Frédéric Oberlin in the Ban de la Roche as a special educational space where moravian values are generated by the spirit of 1789. The french nursery school, thanks to the character of Pauline Kergomard. finally fond, in our opinion, its specific place where the republican ideal and tne pietist thought are merging.

L'étude présentée est extraite d'une recherche ayant pour finalité la mise en évidence de points de rencontre significatifs entre l'évolution de l'esprit du piétisme protestant et les démarches pédagogiques proposées par les précurseurs de l'éducation préscolaire du XVIIe au XIXe siècle. Après une analyse du cheminement des idées novatrices que les pietistes développent dans le domaine de la préscolarisation, nous définissons l'institution des « poêles à tricoter » instaurés par Jean-Frédéric Oberlin au Ban de la Roche comme un espace pédagogique privilégié où les valeurs moraves sont fécondées par l'esprit de 1 789. L'école maternelle française, à travers la personnalité de Pauline Kergomard, trouve enfin dans notre perspective, une place originale au confluent de l'idéal républicain et de la pensée piétiste.
